You gotta love dads. At my wedding, when I tripped on my wedding dress and fell flat on my face, Dad said, “Don’t worry, you’ll do better next time.”

Happy Juneteenth
Happy Juneteenth! Despite most Americans celebrating their independence and freedom on the 4th of July, not all Americans would become free until June 19th, 1865, otherwise known as Juneteenth. On that day, the final enslaved African-Americans in Galveston, Texas were finally freed.
Background: Juneteenth has practically become America’s second independence day and across the country millions of African-Americans celebrate the day with reunions, barbeques, religious ceremonies, performances, and other festivities. Now, the recent BLM protests have led the movement to make Juneteenth a national holiday, which is tremendous progress.
Progress:
46 states and DC have recognized Juneteenth as a state holiday so far.
Texas congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee has proposed a bill to make Juneteenth a federal holiday.
Activist Opal Lee’s petition to make Juneteenth a federal holiday has gained nearly 300,000 signatures.
Many businesses and companies across America are giving their employees a paid-day off on Juneteenth including Twitter, Netflix, Adobe, and the NFL.
Greenman Sachs
Make way for renewable energy! The transition from fossil fuels (such as oil and coal) to cleaner, renewable sources of energy is finally happening. According to analyst reports from Goldman Sachs, the switch from traditional fuels will create a $16 trillion investment opportunity over the next decade.
How? Despite economic downturns typically resulting in a fall of clean energy investments, the coronavirus downturn has contradicted that trend. For example, England recently went over two months without using coal. Goldman Sachs attributes the change to green technologies finally becoming cheap and powerful enough, which opens the door to more investment from financial firms.
Numbers: Goldman Sachs predicts that by the end of this year, spending on renewable energies will surpass spending on fossil fuels. That spending would account for roughly 25% of the total energy spending in the United States and result in between $1-2 trillion dollars in yearly infrastructure investment.
Be the Light
Former New York Knicks point-guard Jeremy Lin has partnered with the California charity Mobilize Love. Together, they have helped to feed and provide other essential services to vulnerable San Francisco locals.
Be The Light: The collaboration between Lin and Mobilize Love is just the latest development in the basketball star’s Be The Light campaign. The campaign encourages everyone to “choose light” even in times of difficulty by helping spread positivity, compassion, and good will, both in actions big and small.
Impact: Lin’s campaign has resulted in over $1.2 million being raised and donated. With Lin’s help, Mobilize Love managed to continue to donate free meals to San Francisco residents daily and ensured that thousands of families would receive care and support.
